About Catholic Choir

The catholic choir is a ministry in the church as other ministries like The Catholic Men Organization (CMO), The Women Organization (CWO) or the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.

But the choir stands out from the rest because of its integral role in the Catholic Liturgy (The Mass).

The two main principal of the Roman Catholic Mass, “Liturgy of the Word” and “Liturgy of the Eucharist”.
Introductory Rites is the begins the Roman Catholic Mass with the choir singing/chanting a song/hymn.

Entrance (Intoductory rites)

The choir starts the Mass (Introductory rites) with an entrance song, chant, or hymn.

The choice of songs/hymns are to praise and thank God for his faithfulness and call on the people of God to join together in worshiping God through Christ His son, our savior.

The choir also sings The Penitential Act:
Kyrie Eleison (Lord have Mercy) and
The Gloria (Glory to God in the highest) in union with the angels at the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ

Liturgy of the word

The choir also helps in lifting the spirit of the congregation by chanting “Thanks be to God” after the 1st and 2nd Readings and “Praise to you our Lord Jesus Christ” after the Gospel

They will also sing the Psalms before the Reading of the Gospel.

During Homily, the choir also assists the priest in any hymn or song that he tunes.

In the Universal Prayer (Prayer of the Faithful) the choir is also called to chant or sing in between each prayer.

The Offertory ends and ushers in “Liturgy of the Eucharist“

As led by the priest, the choir helps to chant most of the congregation’s responses:

Mystery of Faith
The Lord’s Prayer
Sign of Peace
Lamb of God

Communion

This is another area of the Mass that the choir sings to remind the congregation what the body of Christ is and why you should be prepared in spirit to accept the body and blood of our savior Christ Jesus.
